WHATCHU TALKIN BOUT WILLIS?

I grew up when Diff'rent Strokes was a popular television show. That's no big deal unless your last name is Willis. To this day I still hear those famous words popularized by Arnold: "Whatchu talkin bout Willis?" Usually they are uttered by someone looking at me as though I may have never heard it before. Yeah, right! Well this blog is what I (Willis) am talkin bout...my thoughts, observations & opinions. Enjoy...

What Do You Think About the State of Today's Church?

I know I keep beating the same drum, but I thought this was good stuff and certainly something to consider.

Look at my boy Rev. Armstrong (that first black guy) harping on strong doctrine and knocking on Oprah. I love this guy

OK!

I am going to come from the other side of this. Yes, we suck as a church. I have heard it in last 3 books I have read (Un-churhced, Jim and Casper go to church, and Essential church) and I get to do it again with the book, I like God, it's Christians I cant stand.

Really? When are we going to stop beating ourselves up and start doing something? When are we going to stop reading and writing books about it and do something?

OK. that's my rant. I guess I am just over Christian's beating themselves up. We know what to do;
Teach
Preach
Baptize
Disciple
Grow

Let's do it!

This is what I am battling right now. This church has had a revolving door in the youth ministry, so I am left with some biblical e literate kids. We are talking looking in the index just to make sure they know where Genesis is. The time for drawing beards on Moses' face are gone. (old college room mate reference) We need to make concerted efforts to hammer home lasting biblical truths weather they are PC or not, weather they draw numbers or not.

Preach it Rick! I do think we have to trust the power of the Scripture and actually start drilling it into the heads of folks once again. Church Shuckin' and jivin' isn't getting it done.
