WHATCHU TALKIN BOUT WILLIS?
I grew up when Diff'rent Strokes was a popular television show. That's no big deal unless your last name is Willis. To this day I still hear those famous words popularized by Arnold: "Whatchu talkin bout Willis?" Usually they are uttered by someone looking at me as though I may have never heard it before. Yeah, right! Well this blog is what I (Willis) am talkin bout...my thoughts, observations & opinions. Enjoy...

R.I.P.
Well it looks like it might finally be over for my 91 Honda Civic DX Hatchback. It needs a new distributor, it is leaking oil, needs new gaskets, etc. It has no a/c & the paint is fading badly too. Oh, did I mention the muffler is rattling & a rear wheel is "shaking?" Yes, after 185,000 miles it might just be over. I bought for $2k over 4 years ago and I have run it in the ground. In hindsight, maybe I should have done more maintenance, but I definitely got my $$$ out of it. I hate car payments, so it looks like another well aged car for me.

Biscuits & Gravy
I just came home from our monthly men's breakfast at church. Every month I just pack it in (& pack it on later). Of all the food choices I seem to gravitate to the biscuits & gravy. I don't know who came up with this dish, but it had to be one of my fellow southerners. Hey, who would have thunk that a little flower, some sausage & some grease could result in such a tasty concoction? I imagine there isn't anything much worse for you from a health perspective, but it is so gooooooooood! I think I better go take some fish oil or flax seed oil or maybe both!

My Vice
I'm coming clean today. I have a probelem at least, an addiction at most. I just can't stop eating chocolate fudge pop-tarts! I have struggled with this issue for over two decades. I thought I was finally over it, but I'm not! I'm sick of myself and I want to stop, but I can't. I don't even buy theses suger filled things but somehow they are always in my house. I think my Mom is to blame. I'm gaining weight and probably developing blood sugar issues along the way. I need intervention.

J.C.
Today I spoke with Dr. Jack Cottrell, professor at Cincinnati Bible Seminary, and it looks like he will be with us at Olivet Christian Church in early May. I am very excited. Jack is the man when it comes to theology. He is the author of several books and his latest, The Faith Once For All, may be his best yet. He is going to address the hot topic of our day: Women's roles in the church. This ought to be tremendous!

The Mac
I have to admit I'm not much of TV guy. Sure I get caught up in the American Idol hype every year. But, I'm not into much else...until now. Last week I rediscovered The Bernie Mac show. I couldn't sleep one night so I scanned the channels and settled on Bernie. Now it's on my "must see TV" list. I laugh every time I watch it, so now I stay up and watch a rerun almost nightly. Great stuff.

Hoodwinked
Phil Hendie. Ever heard of him? I discovered him years ago when I was working 3rd shift in a warehouse. As I would ride to work I'd listen and at first I couldn't believe how over the top his guests were. After a couple of nights, I started to think this was all just too unbelievable. Well it is. Phil actually makes up guests and does the voices for these "people." He then carries on interviews with these "guests" who always say simply outrageous stuff. The best part is the callers. Many listeners know its all a gag, but there is always someone out there who will call in ready to take on the "crazy guest." Phil is terrific at being able to have rapid fire conversations with callers & "guests" simultaneously. I don't know how he keeps the voices straight. It is all too funny.
