And in with the new...
Roanoke Bible College is undergoing a name change. Reportedly, as of June 2009, Roanoke Bible College will be no more... from that point on, RBC will be known as Mid Atlantic Christian University (MAC-U). For what it's worth I'm down with the name change. Fellow RBC grad and blogger Chris Woolard says the new bi-line is "an education built upon the 66 books" He thinks "it's the power's that be attempt to let everyone know that 'Just because RBC is going through a name change doesn't mean that they've gone liberal.'" So, start taking care of those RBC t-shirts - they will soon be collector's items!

Wow. I had heard that the school was getting a new name. I'm not an alum, so I don't really have a dog in the race, but the new name strikes me as a tad pretentious.
I think MACU might hold the distinction of being the smallest university in the entire world!
Joannah,
Thanks for your comment. Glad to have you here.
David
Actually, just with those in ABHE there are at least a dozen other schools that use university that are smaller than us, not including other secular schools. So no we are not the smallest. The university/college thing is a general misperception. The accrediting bodies make no distinction.
I see that the staff has been well trained to respond when this issue arises. You are right, but the perception is what makes it humorous. Don't get me wrong - I like it.
I'm really kinda neutral on the whole thing, but I do think the "University" part is a bit... (dare I say it) deceitful.
Universities usually have several colleges from which students will graduate. Universities usually (not always) also offer grad degrees (so will MAC-U have a seminary?). If a kid is being recruited by MAC-U and walks on campus for the first time, they see... two dorms, a gym, and two rows of really old houses. Not exactly a... university.
And what will they do with the "fight" song?
lol is overused, but i really did lol! Fight song? Gotta be "Onward Christian Soldiers."
"May we ever love and serve thee,
Faithful through and through,
To the gospel thou has taught us
Hail to... MAC-U."
Doesn't quite have the same ring.
Oh well. I hope the name change helps 'em out.
There should be no more PDA rules if they're gonna call the place MAC-U! LOL
As an Alumni im waiting to receive my Complimentary MACU T-Shirt. So would it be wrong to wear my RBC t-shirt next time i go down there? But hey at least it wasn't something wack like Lighthouse U. I could really care less what they call themselves JUST PREACH DA WORD fellas
Actually we are in conversations with a couple of sister schools looking at a cooperative agreement for a grad school. With a rising % of grads going on the mission field we have come to understand most foreign countries recognize "college" as simple secondary education, sometimes even junior high level and below. Univeristy is used for any post secondary education. Anyway if any of you would like to see the rationale for the name change, including endorsement letters, i would encourage you to e-mail me and I will make sure it gets passed along to you.
BTW, Dave I am looking forward to seeing and hearing you tomorrow. We will have to catch up a bit when you are on campus.
